Sir,
Application for appointment as Assistant Engineer
With reference to my interview with you yesterday, I
now beg to make application for the projected new appointment of
Assistant Engineer,
I understand that the work connected with this appoint
-ment will consist mainly in the making of valuations of land
and buildings in the Colony, and the conduction of such
negotiations as the settlement of valuations between lessor and
lessee usually involves.
As my professional work for several years prior to the
war lay largely in this direction, I feel that I can confidently
offer myself for this appointment.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE.
From 1912-15 I was on the valuation staff of the
Superin tending Valuer of the South Lancs. Division of the Board
of Irland Revenue, and during that period valued town and country
properties under the clauses of the Finance Act 1909-10 to the
value of nearly 2 millions sterling. Prior to this I held an
appointment as chief surveyor in the Estate Office of the Great
Central Railway where I gained considerable aperience in the
frequently rather delicate work of making preliminary enquiries
and negotiations connected with the acquisition of land and
buildings required for the Company's use; also in the settlement
of boundary disputes and similar matters, and in building work
carried out by the Company.
I served articles with the surveyor to an Urban District outside Manchester and subsequently held a position for
5 years as Assistant Surveyor under the late T de Courogy Meade, City Surveyor at Manchester.
